Voice Studio
Lessons
Whether you’re a beginner or have sung for many years, I can help you find your healthiest, most beautiful voice. My teaching focuses on you and your unique voice. Together we work to find your true voice and then I help you find and use the tools necessary to have the best possible voice.
I always work from the point of what you feel, rather than what you hear. There are anatomical realities that I believe every singer should understand (i.e. Air goes into your lungs and nowhere else—not your stomach, not your diaphragm, only your lungs). I do use images and find them helpful (i.e. “when breathing think of a ships anchor – feeling the sensation deep and low in your body”), and I always relate any image I use back to an anatomical reality.
For two years I taught at the University of Texas as a mentor and teaching assistant in addition to starting a Vocal Institute in Austin, TX. I provided a special emphasis on how each student learns and works and trained them based on their specific set of skills. The Vocal Institute focused on middle school thru college students in preparation for school auditions and college entrance auditions. Training included but was not limited to theory development both written and aural, languages, piano, and preparation of material.
Who do I teach?
I have had students from all walks of life: from writers to engineers to entrepreneurs. Each person learns differently and with this I teach to the skill level, needs, desires, and learning style of each individual.
Similarly, each student has different reasons for taking voice lessons and each time I meet a new student we establish goals which we are constantly evaluating and tweaking.
If you are someone who just wants to have some fun and feel better about singing along with the radio and the only time you sing that week is in your lesson with me and that is ok! If your goal is to audition for a community musical or church choir, we can work on that, too. No matter your goals, I will hold you accountable and push you to achieve them.
Every person who wants music in their life should have it. I am here to help you achieve whatever your goal may be.
